Setting up SDRMap on Windows XP.
|
|
- Before you copy SDRmap to your XP machine set it up to use the lowest resolution monitor possible, ie 640x480 medium font.
- Copy the entire mapsys or trimsys directory to your XP machine.
- In windows explorer find the SDRMAP.BAT (or SDR.BAT, TRIM.BAT etc) file and make a shortcut to it, ie right click > SEND TO > DESKTOP (as shortcut)
Right click on this shortcut and select the properties option. Then go to the compatibility tab and select windows 95 from the “run this program in compatibility mode for” dropdown list.
- SDRmap should now run ok.
- You may wish to alter the graphics display to a higher resolution. Make a copy of the sys.dat file in the mapsys directory, this file contains the setting for SDR. You will need to restore this file if the graphics setting you choose doesn't’t work. Experiment to see what will work and what won’t.
Possible issues,
- There appears to be a problem with the graphics drivers on some Acer laptops which prevents SDR operating (it will work on everything else it seems). It is possible to get a new graphics card for these laptops.
- You may need to tick the 256 color setting in the compatibility mode tab (if you get a black screen this will have no effect)
Jumping back into windows while SDR is running may cause a few graphics problems.
- There may be some problems uploading to a data recorder such as a SDR33
Network Printing
- SDRMap has problems printing to a lot of modern printers as that have memory installed in them. It seems the data is passed to the printer but the end of page command doesn't work and the page is never printed. Old printers print each line as it is received.
- If you are running Windows 95 or 98 then the easiest way to print over the network is to capture a network printer. This assigns a local computer port name to the printer ie LPT2 = //smith/hpA3Printer. You can then set SDRF to print to LPT2, it will be fooled into thinking it is printing to a local printer.
- You cannot capture printers on Windows XP, you must use the 'net use' command. Add the following to the batch file that runs SDRMap
net use lptx \\printserver\sharename /persistent:yes
for example
net use lpt2 \\smith\hpA3Printer /persistent:yes
lpt2 will be mapped to hpA3Printer
